about

This EP is a snapshot in time. More accurately, it's a snapshot of two times. Of a time in my life when I was in love, without realising it or ever exploring it, and a time in my life when I was sad, alone in a bedroom, and needed to occupy my mind.

I recorded these songs in the latter time with a Zoom H4n Recorder, and mastered them in Audacity.

Track Name: Kiss and Tell
Mixed feelings; glass ceilings,
These walls are closing in
I just wish you'd fight this
'cos I don't feel like giving in
You don't know what I'm feeling
Yet you play me so well
This could soon turn into
a game of kiss and tell

You've got me stuck thinking
that I did something wrong
If I mention this question
would you answer, or just lead me on?
You don't know what you're doing
You're putting me through hell
This could soon turn into
a game of kiss and tell

I never meant to hurt you
I'm sorry that I fell
But too soon you've turned this into
a game of kiss and tell
Track Name: Debut
Sometimes when i'm singing
you draw pictures on the walls
And I wonder then if how i feel
makes sense to you at all
I show tunes to you I've written
so you cover them in paint
They're better now, grey and smudged and
dirty like your face

I swung you to the city
and you wished that it was new
so you could write an art-house film
and i could make my debut
All I am asking of you now
is just to take me back in time
to the nights above the city
When you asked if you were mine

I'll drive with you all morning
down the streets and avenues
And then we'll sit among the gravestones
and I'll try to break the news
that I am happier with you
than I will ever be again
I'll give up before I'm done
and we can dance in the rain

I swung you to the city
and you wished that it was new
so you could write an art-house film
and i could make my debut
All I am asking of you now
is just to take me back in time
to the nights above the city
When you swore that you were mine

I would give everything I have
to tell you everything I want
But there's too much I have to tell you
and too much that I forgot
I wonder now if all this time with you
will linger in my mind
beyond the days we spend so vacantly
When this is left behind

I won't regret the taste of you
or how your head feels on my chest
I'll never spill a single secret
or a sin that you confessed
And I won't cry when this is over
When it's time to say goodbye
No I won't cry
I won't cry
Track Name: Walking Away
What do you see in flashes of light
when you open your eyes and the world is too bright?
Creatures from fantasy, or failures and flattering
memories, altered to paint you the heroine
Through the looking glass,
keep an eye on your past
and keep moving forwards without turning back
But truth is distorted through mirrors and glasses
and I'm in your blindspot
awaiting a glance

Since that night of soap opera romance
I can't share a single bed with
anybody else
And I wonder if you think about
just giving me a call and saying,
"Hey, remember me?
Remember anything at all?"

'Cause I try
to live like there's living to do
But I'm waiting for an answer
and you're silent and too far away
Tell me why
I'm sitting here waiting for you
I've been sitting so long
I've forgotten the reasons you gave
When you walked away

Take a minute to open your eyes
while the bright lights have faded, and stars fill the sky
Look past the mirror, it's clouding your judgement
a constant obstruction that hides the horizon
You're much better off
looking back once in a while
than fixing your eyes on the future
'cause every mistake is a lesson worth learning
So I'll be your teacher
if you'll take me back

All the prayers and the hope cannot save me
I'm holding on tight, but you're letting me go
So I'm trying to remember when
you told me what love means
and that sometimes it's applicable
to what you feel for me

And I try
to live like there's living to do
But I'm waiting for an answer
and you're silent and too far away
Tell me why
I'm sitting here waiting for you
I've been sitting so long
I've forgotten the reasons you gave
When you walked away

Still I try
to live like there's living to do
But I'm waiting for an answer
and you're silent and too far away
Don't know why
I'm sitting here waiting for you
I've been waiting too long
I just wish you'd turn round so you'd see
I'm walking away
Track Name: Smoke and Mirrors
Red brick dust colours the wind
And settles over the sand
Are you sure you said "anything" for love?
Even now after what’s left
Gathers in the corners of the room
I feel like it's full
Covering me where I fell
And baby takes my hand
I fall back on insanity and hope
Dragged out but that’s as far as it goes
Too "impractical" we both know
So once again I end up
Drawing idle patterns in the sand

And when the sea comes
What’s meant to wash away
Just waterlogs and suffocates
And when the dawn breaks
What's meant to praise the day
Evaporates

And some might say
Things come and go
You’re smoke and mirrors
I’m indigo
But all we know
In our despair
Is sooty brick dust in the air

Shards of glass litter the path
I can't get back to you
Then cut your feet
Or wear big boots
There must be a way to get through
I will try for you
But don’t forget, tread softly
‘Cos the shards are shattered lullabies
We sang the whole night through
And back to you,
Everything is golden
I hoped one day that you’d remember
An outline of what nearly happened

And when the sun sets
I’ll scream at the sky
And when the stars come out,
I’ll break down and cry
But I’ve reached you
And everything’s all right
For now

They all say
Things come and go
That we’re all dust,
And that we’re on our own
And all we know,
All we can share
is sooty brick dust in the air
Track Name: Night Train
Pale snow white with cherry lips
Your taste will linger
like the last time
The shadows 'neath your eyes
hide under thick black lines
that draw me in

I'm alive in broken moments
but mostly living for the
sparkling gold that flecks
the ocean of your eyes
Those shining promises
Relieve me of my senses
and I simply smile

Sing to me; your voice is all I strain to hear
Talk to me - for conversation keeps you near
Kiss me gently, I will hold you
'til the night train comes

Open hearts and zipped down jeans
our passion's stilted
by the fear of being caught
Or fear of growing close
and never letting go
I crossed your lines

Throw words around
and skirt around the ones that matter
Decide it isn't time,
Not now, not yet
But you don't leave
You don't leave
Please don't leave

Sing to me; your voice is all I strain to hear
Talk to me - for conversation keeps you near
Kiss me gently, I will hold you
'til the night train comes

And all this waiting
All this suppression
I don't know what it's doing to you
But it's killing me

When the night train comes
we're still talking about us
and when you realise
you quickly take your leave
At the bus stop we are silent
and we barely touch
But inwardly I'm crying out
When the bus comes round the corner
We make fleeting goodbyes
and with a kiss you're gone
until the next time
And I'm left hoping
I'm left hoping
Hoping I'll see you again

Sing to me; your voice is all I strain to hear
Talk to me - for conversation keeps you near
Kiss me gently, I will hold you
'til the night train comes
